Congratulations Drew!!! The New Orleans Saints’ leader, Drew Brees, has been voted as the Offensive Player of the NFL for 2008.
Brees nearly set passing record for yards in the team’s finale against the Panthers. If Lance Moore cut inside on his route, Drew would have set the record [...]

Desperate times for depleted Saints

Sean Payton doesn’t pay much attention to the mysticism surrounding the New Orleans Saints’ mostly losing four-decade history. That the Louisiana Superdome was built on a cleared cemetery and that this city has historical ties to Voodoo doesn’t concern him. He’d be the last person to buy the idea that someone has been sticking pins in a Saints bobblehead, not that anyone has any better explanation for why a team with playoff aspirations has been afflicted with so much misfortune this season. The Saints have placed 15 players on injured reserve, including four defensive starters.

Brees vs. Warner for MVP Comparison

Don Banks, of SI.com, gives a great comparison of the Drew Brees vs. Kurt Warner MVP race. The stats and production favor Drew Brees as the competition for MVP heats up in the NFL:

– Brees leads Warner in passing yardage, 3,574 to 3,506. (Note: Warner, too, is on pace to beat Marino’s mark, with 5,099 passing yards. But Brees figures to get there first and throw for more.)

– Brees has thrown more touchdown passes, 22-21.

MVP or MIP – Who is more Important?

For the New Orleans Saints, Drew Brees may be the Most Valuable Player, but Reggie Bush’s absence (due to injury), has proven he is their Most Important Player. Without any doubt, Brees’ performance is outstanding in the Saints offensive scheme. However, Reggie Bush is indeed the centerpiece of the team’s offensive attack. The Saints appeared lost without Bush. A lost sense of identity. A lost sense of purpose. Let’s take a look.

Don’t fault Grammatica. The New Orleans Saints have been experiencing the same problems early this season, poor defensive back play and lack of pressure upfront, but the running game crashed the Saints hopes to win against the Broncos. Give the Broncos defense credit, they stopped the Saints [...]

ESPN – Last Call: Wrapping up Week 1 – NFL
We learned the rise of the Saints and Panthers might make life tough for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Panthers upset the Chargers with Jake Delhomme’s last-second touchdown pass. The Saints held off the Bucs 24-20 in the Superdome because Drew [...]

Saints’ defense ’smarter, faster’ – ESPN

NEW ORLEANS — The stage was all set for another memorable collapse. Then, the unimaginable happened. The Saints’ defense didn’t fall apart.
The unit that was largely responsible for last year’s 7-9 record was the driving force behind Sunday’s 24-20 victory against Tampa Bay at the Superdome. When it mattered most, [...]
