The New Orleans Saints have signed defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis.

The draft’s No. 7 overall selection, Ellis agreed to a five-year deal with $19.5 million guaranteed. Further financial details weren’t immediately available.

The contract details were first reported by FOXSports.com.

Despite having missed a week of training camp practices, the 6-foot-1, 309-pound Ellis is expected to play a key role in a Saints front four that already features standout ends in Charles Grant and Will Smith. Voted the 2007 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year, Ellis had 58 tackles and 8.5 sacks as a senior at Southern Cal.

The Saints drafted Ellis after trading up three spots in the first round with New England.

Jacksonville defensive end Derrick Harvey, the draft’s No. 80 overall selection, and Cincinnati linebacker Keith Rivers are now the only first-round picks who haven’t signed with their respective teams.
